Best places to eat & drink in Madarao

We are so lucky to have so many great options available right here in Madarao. Here’s a list of our favourites.

Mister Daruma: a must visit for the ¥3500pp set menu and the local negroni

  • Definitely book here

Sakura Okinomiyaki: the famous traditional Japanese pancake, made with cabbage, and pork or shrimp. Add the pickles, have the hot sake. Also available for lunch and right by the mountain!

Donguritei: DIY bbq style, our favourite across Japan and Korea due to food quality and air quality (not too bbq-y! Shuttle service is a game changer.

Chill Madarao: yummy western-ish versions of Japanese classics. Reservations  are a must!

  • Cafe-style snacks including Single O coffee from 8am-11am inc. plant based milk

  • Kitchen open 530-9pm except on Tuesdays. Open for Apres from 3pm.

Restaurant at Madarao Mountain Lodge

  • Japanese and Western classics including parmys, burgers, poke bowls, and sushi. A favourite of ours.

Japan Snowsports Restaurant:

  • Tuesday & Saturday fancy 6-course dinner with optional local drink pairing (bookings essential)

Smokie’s Restaurant & Bar: snacks, curries, sandwiches and a decent drinks menu. 5pm-late, closed Mondays

Village: degustation-style menu with meat/seafood/vego/kids options. Monday-Sunday 5pm-9.30pm

Aki’s Burger

Jazzy - bar

Pinchi’s Place - great food and cocktails. Local, seasonal and mostly gluten free, and free shuttles!

Red Tricycle: Mexican and cocktails, or just cocktails. Walk-ins only.

  • 4pm-late, closed Tuesdays

Restaurant Rudolf - European-style comfort food inc. pizza
